Our Senators need to hear from us: Support a global response to COVID-19

As Congress debates additional funding for COVID relief, the latest news is that legislators are considering dropping funding for a global response to the pandemic from the package. This would cut funding for the necessary testing, treatment, and vaccines to put an end to the pandemic around the world.

Without proper testing, treatment, and especially vaccine access, low-income nations could be hit hard by another variant of COVID-19, placing vulnerable people at particular risk. Variants can thrive and spread in areas with low vaccination rates, and low-income countries around the world have had little access to vaccines. We are all safer if we have the funds to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 around the world and treat the sick.

Urge your Senators to include funding for a global COVID-19 response in the upcoming package:

  1. Click HERE to look up the names of your Senators. You have two of them, so check twice!
  1. Call the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask to be connected to your Senator. Call twice, once for each Senator.
  1. Use this sample script:

“Hello, my name is (Your Name) and I’m calling from (Your City/State). As a person of faith, I'm calling to urge the Senator to support critical funding for the international COVID-19 vaccines campaign. Without this funding, we all remain vulnerable to new COVID-19 variants. More and more people throughout the world will experience sickness, job loss, and hunger. Without additional resources now, it will take us years to recover from these devastating impacts. Thank you.”
