Peace, Social Justice and Integrity of Creation

Delegation to Latin America with SOA Watch

Former Maryknoll lay missioner Lisa Sullivan, who now works with SOA Watch, is coordinating several delegations to Latin America this year. She writes:

Profound social change is sweeping through Latin America via the ballot box instead of the bullets of past decades. New constitutions, new leaders, and new economic models are all bringing new life to Latin America and new hope to the world. In big and small ways – some that work, and some that don’t – a major experiment is taking place down here. Throughout the South the theme that resonates: Another world is possible, a world of peace, justice, sovereignty and dignity. Hope is rising from the south.

Immersed as we are in our own set of serious problems in the U.S., and blinded by a press which only offers one-liners about the world beyond our borders, that may be hard to see. So, I’d like to personally invite you to experience it for yourself.

  • Join SOA Watch Communications Coordinator Pablo Ruiz in his native Chile from October 8-18, 2009. After suffering torture and imprisonment under the Pinochet dictatorship, Pablo went on to lead the struggle against the SOA in Chile. The delegation will focus on efforts to bring justice to Chile after the brutal Pinochet regime as well as the struggles of the Mapuche people to maintain their culture and traditions.

Hope is rising from the South. Come and see for yourself!
