Plan a local dialogue
Gather opinion-shapers in your community together to discuss the themes raised in the Maryknoll reflection guide in light of Catholic social teaching and one’s civic responsibility to vote.
Use Maryknoll Sunday reading reflections
Sunday reading reflections written by over 50 Maryknoll sisters, brothers, priests, lay missioners, former missioners and staff, are great resources to use as homily starters or simply as reading reflections that highlight the international impact of U.S. policy decisions. The reflections are posted one month in advance for Sundays and Holy Days from March 30, 2008 until Inauguration Day, January 20, 2009. Find them at: http://www.maryknollogc.org/2008elections/homilyhelps.html
Vote for the Common Good
Over 800 Catholics and faith leaders across the country gathered in Philadelphia from July 11-13 to engage with elected officials and develop a Platform for the Common Good. The Convention for the Common Good was only the beginning…we invite you to join the movement and take action. Go to the http://www.votethecommongood.org.
Promote “Short takes on a shrinking world,” our video invitational
Invite high school and college-aged youth to submit 60-90 second videos that highlight issues of importance in the next president’s foreign policy agenda. Videos should focus on one of the election projects’ five themes: climate change; global economy; migration/immigration; HIV/AIDS; and peace and sustainable security. Entries will be accepted from August 15 until November 27, Thanksgiving Day.
